Quota situation on Greenland Halibut

22.02.2015

Greenlandic stocks of Greenland Halibut are considered stable, which is reflected in the quota advice for 2015 from biologists at Greenland's Institute of Natural Resources.

The Greenlandic fishery for Greenland Halibut if divided into the inshore fishery, typically fished from smaller vessels using long lines or nets and the off shore fishery using larger trawlers. Both inshore and off shore and in West Greenland and East Greenland biologists deem the biomasses stable, which is reflected in their advice to the Government of Greenland, who set the final quota.
For 2015, the recommendation is to set the quota at the same level as in 2014 for all fishing areas, except East Greenland offshore and Uummannaq (Northwestern Greenland ) inshore where the stocks are showing so much improvement that a +20% increase of the quota is recommended.
The final quotas are expected to be announced in the end of 2014/beginning of 2015.
